About the event

Black and minority ethnic people experience disproportionate levels of criminalisation and punishment. As highlighted by many of the contributors at the recent police accountability conference, racism and discrimination is still a feature in many aspects of the 'justice' system, as well as within wider society.

This roundtable will bring together academics, researchers and activists to discuss the role of research in exposing the problems of racism and discrimination in criminal justice. Our starting point will be thinking through the role that independent research may play to support activism and campaigning in the lead up to the statutory inquiry into undercover policing

Participants will be invited to explore how research and evidence can be used to expose racism and discrimination in criminal justice policy and hold the state to account. We will consider the following questions:

  1. What research is already available to support the inquiry into undercover policing?
  2. What new research is required?
  3. What datasets, methodologies and approaches are appropriate?
  4. How can we best communicate research findings?

Please note: This meeting is organised in partnership with The Monitoring Group. When registering for this event your name and email address will be shared with them unless you notify us otherwise.
